FOCUS Learning builds the software that regulated industries run their training and qualification programs on. Two platforms, VISION and Qlarity, backed by a professional services team that makes a program work rather than just a license.
the year our history in regulated workforce training starts
organizations across energy, utilities, nuclear, aviation and government
software platforms, VISION and Qlarity, both built on the same method
people on the executive team, each accountable for a defined part of the business
And somebody has to be able to prove it was met, months later, to someone who was not there.
Why FOCUS exists
OUR MISSION
We equip the people who run safety-critical operations with training and performance systems that make competence measurable, repeatable and audit-ready, so every shift starts with a workforce that is ready.
OUR VISION
A world where no one is ever underprepared for a moment that matters. Where learning keeps pace with the systems people operate, and workforce performance is a source of confidence rather than risk.
OUR VALUES

FOCUS Learning evolved from a software-forward business into a software and services platform that empowers the world through workforce performance. VISION has been sold as a product since the 1990s. The services exist because a platform on its own does not fix a training program.
Gary Sprague, a former Diablo Canyon Power Plant consultant, starts the company in response to the regulation that followed Three Mile Island. The founding premise has not changed since: in high-consequence work, training failures have irreversible consequences.
Not a service dressed as a product. VISION launches commercially for the United States nuclear industry, and the object model underneath it is the same systematic approach to training our software still enforces today.
VISION ships as a cloud-based SaaS platform, ending the era of customers running their own instance and falling years behind on versions.
Jay Steele joins as CEO and Nate Jones as CTO, with heavy investment into the SaaS conversion. Rebrand and a rebuilt design system follow in 2024.
VISION completes a SOC 2 Type I audit. Type II is in progress.
Qlarity and the electric utility market come with it, taking the platform beyond nuclear into transmission and distribution.
MADDIE ships on cloud-hosted VISION, and the long-term product direction converges VISION and Qlarity onto one platform.
Tell us how you manage training today. We will show you the workflows that apply to your industry and say plainly which parts of this you need.
